What and How I feed Coturnix/Japanese Quail

caption

Everyone is interested in what I’m feeding the quail.

To feed quail, you will need a variety of feed, water, and a place to keep them. Many people like to keep quail in a cage, but others simply give them a small piece of open ground to forage on.

Feed

I feed our quail a game bird maintenance. You can feed them a grower when they first start and then you can feed them a a finisher when they get up to about the six week mark and that finishes them off nicely for nine weeks if you’re going to eat them.

Otherwise if you’re going to just use them as breeders get the hold of the maintenance stuff because because it’s not as fattening it gives them extra nutrients and the calcium and everything like that to lay their eggs and it’s just a little bit of a better feed.

Water

In addition to good feed, it is important to make sure your quail have clean fresh water. That may mean changing or refilling it more than once a day during the warmer summer months.

Storage

One other thing I probably should mention is I store my feed in a galvanized bin. They’re weatherproof and nothing gets in them, rodents can’t get in them.
